Team expands due to rapid growth
Wassenaar – 23rd April – Juno Investment Partners announces that it has hired Tjalling ten Cate (38) in a role of business development manager. Ten Cate, who joins Juno on May 1st, previously worked at the Dutch Central Bank as a supervisor. At Juno Tjalling ten Cate will predominantly be occupied with attracting new investors for the Juno Selection Fund, a mutual fund specialized in European small and midcap (family) companies.
The Juno Selection Fund, founded in 2007 by Frans Jurgens and Lennart Smits, has seen rapid growth in the past few years, fueled by both inflow of new capital and excellent investment returns (196% over the past five years). This is why expanding the team was very necessary, explains Juno’s managing partner and founder Frans Jurgens. “Because we worried that too much time of our analyst- and investment team was going to be taken up by contacts with existing and prospective clients, we are delighted to have found Tjalling Ten Cate willing to join Juno. We believe he is exactly the right man for what we are trying to achieve with Juno.” In his new role, Ten Cate will position the fund more prominently in the market of successful equity funds. In these efforts, he will be aided by Cécile Krikke-Fritz, client service manager at Juno Investment Partners. Krikke-Fritz will continue to focus predominantly on contacts with existing clients, while Ten Cate’s focus is on expanding clients in both existing and new markets.
Juno invests in European listed (family) companies. It has a preference for companies in which a family or the management holds a significant stake. The selection process puts strong emphasis on returns on invested capital and free cash flows that are highly predictable in nature. The Juno Selection Fund consists of a highly concentrated portfolio of unique companies, which are usually held for many years. This approach has allowed the Juno Selection Fund to significantly outperform the market. In 2014 the funds’ assets-under-management grew above €40 million.
Tjalling ten Cate was educated as a lawyer and since 2006 he has worked at the Dutch Central Bank where he performed several supervisory roles. Currently he is responsible for supervising the integrity of (predominantly) Trust companies. Previously he has supervised banks. Tjalling ten Cate is married, has two daughters and is an avid sportsman (golf, football and skiing).
About the Juno Selection Fund and Juno Investment Partners
The Juno Selection Fund invests in unique European Small- and Mid Cap companies. Mostly these are family-owned companies, or companies where a family of management is also a shareholder. Companies that can continue to achieve a predictable and stable profit growth, year after year, are considered for investment. During this selection process, the emphasis lies on the return on invested capital and free cash flows that are highly predictable in nature. Our analysts / asset managers put together a highly concentrated portfolio of companies that they themselves have identified, analyzed and visit frequently. These companies often remain in the portfolio for a longer period of time (over three years). With this investment style, the Juno Selection Fund has achieved consistent superior investment results for its clients during the past years. The Juno Selection Fund is managed by Juno Investment Partners.
